What is yoga?
Yoga is the ancient practice of meditation, breath, and asana (postures) that originated in India for mental, physical, and spiritual well being. Yoga was traditionally practiced to "relieve the mind of perturbations" in hopes of achieving a goal. Today it is commonly practiced to relieve stress, balance hormones, make the spine flexible and alleviate health problems. Yoga aligns the body, builds strength and balance, and creates space for the body and mind to achieve its full potential. There are many types of yoga ranging from Restorative, good for post surgery or debilitating body injuries, to Hot Power Yoga which is more vigorous, cardiovascular style of vinyasa flow yoga. It is important to take the time to choose a class that fits your level and needs. Many yogi's tend to get "hooked" in large part because they feel more content with themselves and more aware of their body's potential.
